Ser o Estar
Some adjectives can change their meaning depending on whether "ser" o "estar" is used with them.
Here are some common ones with both meaning:
SER : ESTAR :
aburrido = que no divierte = boring aburrido = no encontrar nada para entretenerse = bored
atento = amable = to be caring atento = prestar atención = to pay attention
blanco = que es de este color = to be white blanco = pálido = to be pale
bueno = honesto, que se porta como es debido = to be good bueno = con salud = to be healthy
despierto = que aprende con rapidez, hábil = to be alert despierto = no estar dormido = awake
listo = que tiene facilidad para aprender = intelligent, clever listo = preparado para algo = to be ready
malo = de mala calidad o que causa daño a los demás = bad malo = que está enfermo o no goza de buena salud = to be ill
moreno = con los cabellos o la piel de ese color = dark-skinned moreno = que tiene la piel de ese color, pero por efecto del sol = tanned
rico = tener dinero = to be rich rico = que tiene buen sabor = to be tasty
interesado = egoísta = to be self-interested interesado (en) = tener interés en algo = to be interested in (sth)
negro = que es de este color = to be black negro = que está muy enfadado = to be angry
vivo = sinónimo de "listo" = to be quick-witted vivo = que tiene vida = to be alive
ciego = no ver = to be blind ciego = estar dominado por un sentimiento o una pasión muy fuerte = to be dazzled
